Cookie Guidlines
The Volkswagen AG uses various cookies on its websites. Cookies are small data files with configuration information that are saved on your end device. Cookies can basically be divided into three categories.
- So-called function cookies are essential for the functionality of the website. The processing of functional cookies is necessary to enable you to visit the website (cf. Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b DSGVO).
- The comfort of a website visit is increased by so-called comfort cookies, which, for example, save your language settings. The legal basis for the comfort cookies is a legitimate interest (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f DSGVO). The legitimate interest lies in providing a certain level of comfort during your visits to the website. You can object to data processing at any time with effect for the future. You can find more information on this in the data protection declaration.
- Tracking cookies are used to create a pseudonymised usage profile. Tracking cookies are only set if the website visitor has consented to this (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a DSGVO). Consent is given via the so-called cookie banner, which must be actively clicked on. Further information on the used tracking tools and how you can revoke your consent can be found in the data protection declaration.
Different types of cookies are used in the described categories. Below, you will find an explanation of the most common types of cookies for your understanding:
1. Session cookies
While you are active on a web page, a session cookie is temporarily stored in your computer’s memory. This contains a session ID so that, for example, you do not have to log in again each time you change websites. Session cookies are deleted when you log off, or cease to be valid as soon as your session has automatically expired.
2. Persistent or stored cookies
Persistent cookies save files on your computer until the scheduled expiration date. These cookies enable web pages to remember your information and settings the next time you visit. This makes it easier and quicker to access the web pages; for example, there is no need to re-adjust the language settings for our portal each time you visit. When the expiry date elapses, the cookies are automatically deleted when you visit the web page that created them.
3. Third-party cookies
Third-party cookies come from providers other than the operator of the web page. They may be used for example to collect information for advertising or generate custom content and web statistics.
4. Flash cookies
Flash cookies are stored on your computer as data elements of web pages that use Adobe Flash Player. Flash cookies are not time-limited.
